Hagelin HC-550/HC-580 CRYPTOMATIC
Wanted item

The Hagelin HC-550 and HC-580 were desktop cipher machines developed by Crypto AG in Zug (Switzerland) in the 1980s. It consisted of a large black metal tray that was bolted to the bottom of a modified Siemens T-1000 teleprinter, similar to the Philips Aroflex.

The HC-550 is a off-line machine, while the HC-580 can also be used on-line or as an ordinary teleprinter when used in a line-connected mode. The Siemens T-1000 teleprinter is used as an input/output device, whilst the cipher unit itself is mounted to its bottom. The use of a standard teleprinter allows different typefaces to be used, such as Latin, Arabic, Farsi, etc.
